Perimeterless? Yes, but secure.

Those of the willing readers :-) following the controversially discussed topic of hidden online searching of private computers in Germany should be alerted. If you see how willing politicians are to change the constitution to gain more national security on the cost of privacy, one has to wonder if these people should not be observed by the “Bundesamt für den Verfassungschutz” (Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution). I mean, these politicians are enemies of the values of our society. And all this in the cloak of the offices they hold. Well, I should not get too much off topic here…

So what does this relate to the PLN you ask. Well, the protection of privacy is essential to this project in many aspects:

  • Open Source technologies are contradictory to governmental observation (to German speaking readers I recommend the following article: “Linux vs. Bundestrojaner” (German Linux Magazin:)
  • The protection of privacy requires cryptographic technologies just as the PLN does.
  • Authentication is an integral part of the PLN. It has to be assured that the underlying information is kept in a secure place (OpenID)

Damnit, I’m off topic again… to make a long story short, if you feel that your privacy is badly (if at all) protected you should fight for more adequate laws. As a first starting point I suggest the participation at the demonstartion against security and observation mania at the Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) in Frankfurt/Main, Germany:

Stoppt die Vorratsdatenspeicherung - www.vorratsdatenspeicherung.de

It happens April, 14th at 1500 hours. I’ll try to be there. Leave a comment if you want to meet.
